Arts Scholars’ Showcase brings a wealth of talent to Burdall’s Yard

We were delighted to welcome the University of Bath Arts Scholars to Burdall’s Yard on Wednesday evening for their Showcase. Audiences were led through all the different spaces of Burdall’s by the Scholars, with each room presenting a different art-form. The multimedia evening consisted of sculptures and photography exhibitions, sitting alongside dance, music and monologues.

The evening commenced in the bar with an original piece by Music Scholar, Christian Goodall, entitled Rising Spirit, before the audience were led through to the Gallery for a monologue performed by Acting Scholar, Francesca McBride. Michael Osula, a Visual Arts Scholar presented a series of photographs depicting brutalism in the Studio, before Dance Scholar, Jeanette Chua performed a self-choreographed piece based on Osula’s work. In the Gallery, the audience were free to explore Visual Arts Scholar, Rishi Shah’s sculptural exhibition, ‘Confronting Calamity’, before heading to the Main Stage for a series of piano pieces, performed by Goodall and another Music Scholar, Kian Varu. Musical Theatre Scholar, Roya Gharbi, along with McBride, then performed a duologue from Blue Stockings in the Gallery, before the audience were invited to take a seat in the bar area, for a series of musical performances which concluded the evening. Music Scholar, Douglas Lloyd, was accompanied by Goodall in a recital of ‘Santa Fe’ before being joined by Gharbi for a rousing rendition of ‘It’s Too Late to Turn Back Now’. The evening concluded with a solo performance from Gharbi, singing ‘They Just Keep Moving The Line’.
