Veteran actor, French teacher, and lifetime member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters, Jacob Truax brings his one-man show, An Evening with Abraham Lincoln to Burdall’s Yard for a singular performance. Meticulously researched, the show is a combination of biography, speeches, letters, and humor that will leave audiences with a new found appreciation for the 16th president of the United States.
Jacob’s love for performance was born in high school, when he recited passages from MacBeth to a surprised classroom of senior English literature students. Not long afterwards, he graced the stage at Murfreesboro Little Theatre as Elard in The Foreigner, earning that year’s youth award. He has been on stage ever since, enacting roles such as MacBeth, Prospero in The Tempest (twice!), Benedick, Don John, and Don Pedro in separate productions of Much Ado About Nothing, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night. After university he worked in France as an assistant English teacher before taking up the position of French teacher at his alma mater, Riverdale High in Murfreesboro, TN, USA. During the pandemic, he doffed the mantle of French instructor and became the school’s gifted facilitator. In this role, he finds that as he teaches his students how to manage their time, follow through with their commitments, and actualize their dreams, he also listens to those lessons. His one-man show, An Evening with Abraham Lincoln attests to the acquisition of that advice, which he committed to after the love of his life recognized his likeness to Lincoln. Meticulously researched, the show is a combination of biography, speeches, letters, and humor from the 16th president of the United States. Aside from teaching and acting, Jacob spends his time writing fiction, working on his blog, and taking care of his eight-acre mini-farm just outside of Murfreesboro.
